Ambassador Testimonials
"Environmentally related work experience. Meeting others with similar passions. Traveling the province. Meaningful work. Networking. Autonomy. Learning. Variety. Fun. These are some of the very positive things that come to mind when I reflect over my past summer as a Recycling Ambassador. It is the best summer job I’ve come across yet – and who knows, maybe it could be the same for you!” -- Tristan, RCA Ambassador 2010
"My summer as a Recycling Ambassador was incredible work experience. The job provided the opportunity to learn about, work for, and meet the leaders of a variety of environmental non profits and other groups, all while travelling the province with fun coworkers that shared my same passion for the environment. As I continue my university education and work experience, I constantly come across information and people that I encountered during my summer work as a Recycling Ambassador. It’s a truly great opportunity for environmental students! AND it’s a lot of fun!" -- Emma, RCA Ambassador 2010
"What does it mean to be a Recycling Ambassador? It means a lot of things. I personally had an awesome summer as an Ambassador. While working, I got to have a lot of fun, travel throughout Alberta, learn a ton about waste management and recycling in Alberta, and most importantly – get involved! I also developed a lot of valuable skills and made contacts with people in the waste management industry that I am confident will be of benefit as I move forward in my career. The Recycling Ambassador position is very unique. All of us have worked jobs in the past where the clock on the wall seems to tick as if it were covered in molasses. This job is nothing like that. As an Ambassador, a lot of what my partner and I did was planning and execution of our own work. This is very satisfying as you almost never find a job with that kind of freedom at the starting level. One highlight was that I never had to wait for the end of the day to punch out. The end of the day was when I was finished doing what my partner and I set out to do. This gave us a fair amount of freedom to work around our own schedules, which was another highlight, but having said that, there were also a few times when we had to work very hard for several days in a row to accomplish our objectives. It also requires that you be flexible and able to take changes in stride in your work schedule. Things do not always go as planned, but that’s just part of the fun, as life would be so boring if everything was to be expected! So to sum up, it you think you’ve got what it takes to be an Ambassador, I encourage you to apply. It was by far the best summer job that I have ever had, and the people I had the privilege of working with made it a once-in-a-lifetime experience." -- Chris, RCA Ambassador 2010
