
Philippa Wagner

Philippa holds a Bachelor
of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, where she specialized
in waste management and environmental impact assessment. After completing
university and briefly working with Guelph 2000 and MDS International,
she moved back to Alberta in 1997. She then worked with City of Grande
Prairie in their waste management department for over 5 years. Most recently,
Philippa moved to Calgary where she now works with The City of Calgary's
Waste & Recycling Services as a Waste Diversion Specialist. |

Jason London

Jason is the Manager of Compliance for the Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB), the Delegated Administrative Organization (DAO) responsible for the beverage container return system in Alberta. Jason has been with the BCMB since 1998, when he began his career after completing a Health, Safety and Environment Diploma from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, a program created and administered by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME).
Jason has been involved with the RCA for the past 8 years as a director and member of both the Leadership & Advocacy and Communications committees.

Dean is the VP of business development for Calibre Environmental Ltd. who produce 100% recycled ecocoat premium latex paint. Dean's career has primarily been in communications and marketing roles for WestJet, ENMAX, Canadian Regional Airlines, United Farmers of Alberta, and AGT.
Before being elected as a RCA board member in October 2005, Dean had been actively involved in the RCA's IC&I and Market Development committees since 2004. He volunteered extensively for the University of Calgary Alumni Association in a variety of roles including President and committee Chairs since 1994. Dean also served as a member of the Senate of the University of Calgary, has been a Scouts Canada leader, and has volunteered for numerous other community and professional organizations. |

Paula Kuryk
Treasurer |
Paula Kuryk has a Bachelor of Commerce and works as a Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Coordinator with WEIR Canada Inc. She has been in the OHS industry for the past 2 years in North-Eastern BC on a hydro-electric dam, but more recently has settled into the Edmonton office.
Paula has been involved with the RCA since the Spring of 2001. Prior to being elected to the Executive, Paula spent a year on the Board as a Director and was a summer ambassador for the previous 5 years. She has actively participated in RCA events and conference organizing for many years and will continue to promote the RCA in every manner. |

Olena Juzkiw
Secretary |
Olena Juzkiw is a professional engineer with experience in mechanical design and project management. She received her B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto and moved out to Calgary after graduation. Olena currently works for the Calgary Board of Education as the Community Projects Coordinator where her role is to facilitate partnerships and relationships within the CBE and between the CBE and the community with respect to operational environmental literacy, energy efficiency and sustainability. In her extra curricular time, Olena teaches dance, enjoys outdoor activities and tries to close the gap between what she knows and what she knows she doesn’t know. |

Sarah Begg
Director |
Sarah is the program manager for the Commercial
Environmental Services program at Clean Calgary Association (CCA). During her
time, the program has expanded to help companies and the ICI sector
throughout Calgary to change their behaviour and perception of waste and divert
waste from landfill. The program has been the recipient of an Emerald Award, a
Calgary Award and an RCA Rs of Excellence Award.
Sarah is active in pushing the environmental
agenda through by involving herself with other organization including sitting
on the board of the Recycling Council of Alberta Board, and committee work with
BOMA Calgary EH&S committee, University of Calgary solid waste committee,
Mount Royal University Environmental Science Advisory Committee.

Curran Chrunik
Director |
Curran Chrunik is the regional solid waste manager for the Rocky Mountain Regional Solid Waste Authority located in west central Alberta. After graduating from NAIT in 1996, Curran spent 3 years working for environmental consulting firms in Edmonton and Calgary. During that time he had the opportunity to work on hydrogeological and environmental projects throughout Alberta, northeastern BC, and as far northeast as Repulse Bay, Nunavut.
Because of this experience and through his travels, he developed a love for the rural communities in Alberta which then landed him in Rocky Mountain House in spring 2000. In February of 2001, Curran accepted the challenge of his current position as regional solid waste manager.
He is currently a SWANA Certified Landfill Manager and Recycling Systems Manager, as well as a Certified Compost Operator under Alberta Environment.
Curran has been a member of the Recycling Council of Alberta for almost a decade and continues to learn from its members. He is excited and honored to take a place on the Board of Directors.

Ray Dumouchel

Ray Dumouchel is the Associate Director of Buildings and Grounds Services in the portfolio of Facilities and Operation at the University of Alberta. Ray has worked in the Building Service field in Edmonton and Ottawa for over 24 years. Diverting waste from landfill is his top priority. In support of the University of Alberta's commitment to sustainable practices, for the past several years Ray has been responsible for increasing the waste diversion program and identifying new initiatives to provide a more sustainable facility for today and the future.
In 2007 he led the largest change in over 30 years to the recycling program on campus by constructing a “Recycle Transfer Station”. The Station was the first of its kind in an educational facility in Alberta. He has also recently initiated a full circuit recovery program by diverting food waste which is sent for composting and returned back to the campus as composted material for our flower beds.
In Ontario, Ray was a member of the Ontario University and Colleges Association of waste managers. He has been a member of the RCA for the past 4 years. |

Warren Graumann

Warren Graumann is the
President & CEO
of THE GARBAGE COMPANY INC., a non-hazardous waste removal
and recycling services company in the City of Calgary. Since 2005,
THE GARBAGE
COMPANY
has become the fastest growing privately owned waste removal and recycling
services company in the Calgary marketplace.
Involved in the waste industry since 1987, Warren held
various positions of increasing responsibility with Browning-Ferris Industries
(BFI) and
Waste Management (WM). Immediately prior to founding THE GARBAGE COMPANY,
Warren had the responsibility of Regional Vice President for Eastern
and Western Canada with WM. For over 20 years, Warren has been actively
involved with industry and municipal waste and recycling issues in all
Canadian provinces. He has taken a leadership role with a number of trade
associations including serving as a Board Member for the Ontario Waste
Management Association (OWMA). Warren is currently serving as a Director
of the RCA and member of the Leadership & Advocacy and ICI committees. |

Sharon Howland

Sharon Howland is the Waste and Recycling Manager for the Town of Cochrane. Sharon completed a Bachelors of Environmental Studies and Political Science at the University of Northern British Columbia. During her years at university, Sharon's passion for waste and recycling issues was ignited through her work with the Edson & District Recycling Society and the Recycling Council of Alberta as a summer student and Recycling Ambassador.
Since returning to Alberta on a full-time basis, Sharon has continued to work with various municipal governments operating waste management facilities including recycling depots, transfer station, landfills and special waste programs. Sharon continues to focus her efforts on the important role that municipalities can play in developing strategic waste management plans and programming based on the waste hierarchy.

Maegan Lukian

Maegan is the Alberta Sales manager with PROECO Corporation, specializing in hazardous waste management & recycling and has been working in the environmental industry for three years. Prior to this, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta, focusing on courses in environmental stewardship, conservation, sustainability and wildlife ecology. She has been a member of the Recycling Council of Alberta for three years and will continue to support the RCA mission and facilitate waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation in the Province of Alberta. |

Tami Rothery

A recent graduate of the Applied Policy Studies degree from Mount Royal in Calgary, Tami is an active community member seeking to actualize positive change in how humans and nature interact. Gaining governance and policy development experience through a variety of positions including Vice-President of Student Life for the Students' Association of Mount Royal College, Director of Policy for the Alberta Student Executive Council (formerly ACTISEC), and inaugural Chair of the Mount Royal Sustainability Committee, Tami is honoured to now be able to contribute to the excellent work of the Recycling Council's board.

Joanne Walroth

Joanne is the Solid Waste & Recycling
Officer with the M.D. of Rocky View. She lives in Cochrane and
has been actively involved with the RCA for 8 years, serving on several
committees and helping out with organizing the conference and other RCA
events. She is currently taking the University of Calgary's Environmental
Management Certificate course. |

Dave Whitfield
Director |
Dave was trained
in Business Administration and has held a number of positions in human
resource management and development. Twenty–five years ago he
caught the waste bug and most of his time since has been devoted
to the ongoing development of waste management and recycling in Alberta.
Dave
helped found several successful organizations including the Recycling
Council of Alberta, the Calgary Materials Exchange, and Built Green
Alberta. In his current role with Alberta Environment, he is focussing
on reduction
of construction and demolition waste. Dave truly practices what he preaches
and in his spare time he is usually constructing something with recycled
building materials.

Dan Zembal
Director |
Dan Zembal is the president and owner of Alberta Waste &
Recycling. The company develops and provides innovative, practical and
environmentally sustainable waste management solutions to provincial
and municipal governments, developers/owners, contractors, builders and
waste haulers. Dan is setting up Resource Recovery Depots throughout
Alberta to accept and recycle construction and demolition waste
materials.
Dan is very active and passionate about C&D waste
minimization / diversion. He is an active participant on the province’s
C&D Waste Reduction Advisory Committee, President of the Recycling
Council of Alberta, and founding member of the Calgary Materials
Exchange. Dan was recognized for his drive, dedication and
determination by Alberta Construction Magazine as one of the industry’s
“Mover and Shakers of 2007”. He wants to continue to “move” the
construction industry towards environmental sustainability and to
continue to “shake up” the recycling industry. |

Ross Boutillier
City of Edmonton Liaison |
Ross is Director
of Business Planning for the City of Edmonton's Waste Management Branch.
Ross has been directly involved in a wide range of waste
and recycling initiatives: commissioning of two Eco-Station household
hazardous waste facilities, introduction of bi-weekly winter waste collection,
expansion of the recycling depot chain from eight to twenty-two locations,
and the introduction of Blue Bag recycling collection. Ross was also
directly responsible for implementation of City provided waste bin service
for 85,000 multi-family residences and for writing the City's Waste Management Bylaw.
Ross holds a B.A. from the University of Alberta and has a
special interest in economics. Ross has served as the City of Edmonton's liaison
representative for
the RCA Board since 2003 and serves on the Leadership and Advocacy and ICI committees.

Dave Schaaf

David Schaaf currently manages Waste & Recycling Services for the City of Lethbridge. He recieved his engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan before moving to Alberta to work in the agricultural manufacturing sector. His employment started with the City of Lethbridge in 1990. During that time, he worked in the areas of Fleet Management, Facility Management and Information Technology before taking the lead role in Waste & Recycling Services in 2003.

Linda McDonald is the Executive Director of Alberta CARE (Coordinated Action for Recycling Enterprises). Alberta CARE is
a non-profit organization established to advance recycling and waste management
in Alberta. Her current duties include coordinating and developing partnerships,
bringing together diverse interests for the purpose of generating sustainable
economic development opportunities for recycling in Alberta.
Linda holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Manitoba,
and has a strong marketing background. Linda has practical experience in
the private sector, charities, and government in a wide range of waste and recycling
initiatives in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Linda is looking forward to promoting
the importance of recycling and waste minimization in a cost
effective manner. |

Christina Seidel
Executive Director

Christina holds a Masters degree in Environmental Design (Environmental Science), as well as a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. She operates sonnevera international corp., a waste reduction consulting firm, and is the current Executive Director of the Recycling Council of Alberta. Christina loves rural life, choosing to live on a farm near Bluffton, Alberta, where her and her family raise Warmblood horses, and enjoy many other outdoor activities.
